Maskne (Mask Acne) what is it and how can we prevent it ?

The new normal requires us to wear face masks regularly for some people for longer periods than others, however this is proving to cause sensitivity to our skin.

Are you suffering from breakouts? Irritated skin? Dry patches?
Here are some tips on how you can prevent this and heal your skin.

Wearing a mask can cause our skin to suffer by congesting and blocking our pores, when you breathe or talk, your mask tends to trap in a lot of hot air. Besides being annoying, this air creates a warm, humid environment — and an ideal setting for yeast, bacteria and other flora, to grow.

We are noticing more irritation with reusable masks as they are not as fresh and clean if not being washed daily. For those needing to wear masks for a long period of time we recommend to change your mask every 4 hours.

Treat mask related break outs and prevent future blemishes with our antibacterial cleanser; Clarifying Foam. Deeply purifying, our foaming cleanser unclogs pores and lightly exfoliates skin without causing dryness or irritation. Clarifying Foam is also carefully pH balanced so it won’t strip the skin or disrupt its delicate equilibrium

TIPS. Cleanse your skin twice daily. Morning and night try something fragrance free and don’t over cleanse as we don’t want to risk stripping the skin.
Moisturise as this can help calm irritated skin a layer of moisturiser (lighter if you are oily or acne prone)  thicker if you have sensitive or eczema prone skin.
A sunblock that contains zinc or titanium can help your skin by serving as a barrier against the friction of the mask rubbing your skin.
